Welcome to our home on the Web! The Batala Percussion Band started in Washington, DC in June, 2007. We're an international all women band, that plays Afro-Brazilian / Samba-Reggae rhythms and is open for membership to ALL WOMEN over the age of 18.
All proceeds of the band go toward providing instruments and costumes for the members, and allowing all women to join the band for free, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, income or musical experience. We currently have 40 women in the band and are always looking for new women to join.
